I attended the memorial service for Dean. I recall he died of stomach cancer, which was rare for a young person.

I too attended Dean's funeral. As I recall Dean had a long hard cancer battle, which ended his wonderful life way to soon.

Dean did have colon cancer.  He was my roommate at Wisely Hall my senior year.  Susan and I married in July after graduating in '66 and he was in our wedding but had been in the hospital after school was out that Spring.  He was one of the nicest people I ever knew and tried not to let his illness interfere with the requirements of pledging.  By early 1967 Susan and I were sent to Puerto Rico in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps for three years, and I lost touch, but later read in the Scroll about his joining the Chapter Grand.

He knew his odds weren't good back in those early days of his cancer treatment, but he wanted to continue to have a full life, but knew it did not look good.  He never complained in our late night talks, however.  I think about him often.

I agree with what Paul said. I was also in Wisely with Dean and Paul. Dean seemed to be able take his situation sort of with a shrug of the shoulder and just accept it and do the best he could.

Online research today shows that Dean joined the Chapter Grand October 20.1967 in Longview.  Phi Delts were listed as honorary pallbearers.  In coelo quies est.

Yours in the Bond,
