Barry Stephens #26 VIEW PROFILE

Joe Barry, a counselor at Bryan Adams High School for the past 8 years. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, September 21st at Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home, 10501 Garland Road. Mr. Stephens died Tuesday of cancer at his home in Dallas. He was 54 years of age.Mr. Stephens gave of himself unselfishly to students and parents alike. For 32 years he has worked in the field of education serving both as a classroom teacher and as a counselor. The past 25 years he has been a counselor in the Dallas Public Schools. During the summer months he has taken students on tour in Russia, Australia and Europe and he has been active in the People to People Program. He was instrumental in planning College Night to introduce students to representatives from many different colleges and universities. Ironically, College Night will be held at Bryan Adams on Wednesday, September 20th. He has been named an honorary Knight Templar with the rank of Knight Commander of Scottish Branch by order of the Grand Baliff of the Grand Bailiwick of Scots of the Order of The Temple. His love for Scotland and Scottish music was well known. At Barry's request, memorials may be made to the Joe Barry Stephens Scholarship Fund at Bryan Adams High School. This fund was established to honor Barry prior to his death. Mr. Stephens was preceeded in death by his mother, Mary Elizabeth Lehecka and step-brother, Jess Lehecka. He is survised by his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph edward Stephens; three aunts; an uncle; several cousins and many, many friends.
