Paul Hill Davis, Jr. died on December 8, 2022 at the age of 85 at his residence in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was born on September 8, 1937 to Paul Hill Davis, Sr. and Helen Augusta Nelson Davis who preceded him in death. Survived by a twin sister, Helen Martha Daniel (“Tootie”) and sister Frances Starr Braun, numerous nieces and one nephew; Starr Huon, Helen McFerron, Paula Florence Daniel, Claire Nicole Noot, Richard T. Braun, Helen Starr Hunter and Jody Thompson as well as many great nieces and nephews, friends and colleagues.

Paul graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1955 and Stephen F. Austin State University in 1958 with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. In 1960, he received a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in General Business with a minor in Economics as well as a secondary teaching certification from Stephen F. Austin State University. Paul was a member of the Phi Delta Theta men’s social fraternity and Alpha Chi National College Honor Society. Following graduation, Paul joined the Air Force Reserves in 1960 until his honorable discharge in 1966. In 1968, Paul received his Texas Real Estate Sales License followed by his Texas Real Estate Broker’s License in 1978.

In 1961 he accepted a position with the Richardson Independent School District where he taught high school Biology and Typing. In 1963 Paul experienced a career change, joining The Hartford Insurance Group where he remained in a managerial position until 1984. At that time, he joined the American States Insurance Company in a similar position until his early retirement in October 1992 when he returned to his home town of Nacogdoches, Texas.

He enjoyed traveling, reading and the theater. Further, he loved his church community and was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Nacogdoches since childhood. He cared deeply for his family and friends and had a special and unique relationship with each of his nieces and nephews being called “Uncle Bubba”. He was known for his humor and for his true and genuine interests in everyone; not only those in his family, where his deep love rests, but in everyone he met.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at Christ Episcopal Church, 1430 N. Mound Street in Nacogdoches. Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Cason Monk - Metcalf, 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery immediately following the service.

Pallbearers are Richard T. Braun III, Bryan Holt Davis III, Jefferson Barclay Davis, Bowden Hight, Tommy Hunter, Stuart Van Shoubrouek, and James K. Thompson

Honorary Pallbearers are Steve Barber, Roger Hight, Mike Keller, Jay McFerron, Gary Moorse, Don Noot, David Norton, Bob Stripling, James Jeffery Wheeler and Billy Willis.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to one of the following organization: American Heart Association, MD Anderson Cancer Research, Christ Episcopal Church or a charity of your choice.
