James R. Newman #75

James "Richard" Newman was born April 24, 1944, at Florence Nightingale Hospital in Dallas. He grew up in Garland surrounded by 2 sets of grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a younger sister, Karen. Starting at age 11, Richard worked summers at the family car dealership, learning the car automotive business from the ground up. It was good training for his life-long work in the automotive field. Richard went through 12 years in the Garland schools. He played football for the Garland Owls and graduated in 1962. After graduation, he attended Stephen F. Austin State College in Nacogdoches, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Richard graduated from college and joined the Navy Reserves. He served aboard a destroyer off the coast of Viet Nam and was discharged in June 1969. Richard is survived by his wife, Victoria Newman; his daughter and son-in-law Wendy and A.J. Santiago, and 2 grandchildren, Andrew and Nicole.
