James E. (Jimmy) Dawson III #110

James Edwin Dawson III
October 23, 1945 - January 20, 2022

Jim Dawson was born in Crockett Texas to Polly and James Edwin Dawson Jr. He graduated from Crockett High School in 1963. He then attended Stephen F Austin University where he pledged Phi Delta Theta fraternity and gained a lifetime of dear friends. While attending SFA, Jimmy met the love of his life, Ellen Anderson and the couple married on May 18, 1968. After graduating from SFA in 1969, he moved the family to Dallas to begin his business career in information technology. Jimmy initially worked for Ward Drug but found personal and professional success working for Cullum Companies. As Vice President and MIS Director for Tom Thumb, Jim "High Tech" Dawson pioneered the company’s “Promise Card”, one of the first successfully distributed electronic check/frequent shopper programs in the Southwest. During this time, the family settled in Plano Texas where Ellen and Jimmy raised their two children, Christine and David. Memory filled weekends with kids sports, “special” projects, chili cook-offs and pool parties established many great friendships and helped him perfect the art of pool side cooking, his coveted salsa recipe and the annual Dawson New Years Eve party.

Later, in 2001, he and Ellen moved to Crockett Texas where he transitioned into a business consulting role with SAP. They lived and retired at Spring Creek Country Club where he served as a board member. He loved re-igniting relationships he’d created early in his childhood and lived for visits from his grandchildren. Jimmy enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and traveling…from daily lunches with Phi Delt family to annual trips to Door County where many family memories were made. Jim will be remembered for being a loving and loyal husband, father and brother. His smile, love, friendship, cooking, original recipes and his mantra "........keep smilin' and make the World wonder what you've been up to" will continue to live on through friends and family.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Ellen Anderson Dawson, his daughter Christine Allen and husband Carson. Son, David Dawson and wife Shannon. Sister, Polly Ann Morrison husband Chuck and children James, Max and Charles. Sister-in-law, Carol Dawson. Nephew, Brant Dawson, wife Katie and daughter Sloane. Niece, Lauren Dawson Huckabay husband Grant Huckabee and children Keegan and Story. Grandchildren, Jackson Madonna, Wright Allen, Jackie Allen, Ellie Kate Madonna, Jake Dawson, Emme Dawson.

He is preceded in death by his parents, J.E. and Polly Dawson, brother Paul Dawson.

A celebration of life will be held for Jimmy Dawson on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Spring Creek Country Club between 3:00-5:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association:

Cheers!

I  met Jim and Richard Reich, in the 80's.  The chapter was struggling and Jim came to the rescue with his smile and energy.  He made quick friends of all the actives ( and little sisters.....).  He was the life of those crazy parties.  When he and Richard were together, they would entertain the entire group with their brotherhood and comedy.  We had great times!

It was inspriing to me to  see that Alumni Brothers could still be such great friends long after undergraduate days!

In Cielo there is rest!
