It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of a recent initiate into the Chapter Grand. Ryan Derr, Bond Number 1104, Spring 2024, lost his life due to complications from Type 1 Diabetes while on a winter trip in the Gila Wilderness of the Black Mountains in New Mexico. Ryan was accompanied on this trip by two brothers, Sam Jones and Bennet Voorhees, as well as two non-Phi's.
To honor Ryan's memory and support his family during this difficult time, we have established a collection on the TexasEta.com website. Contributions will be donated to his family or a charity of their choosing.
This loss is profound and difficult to process, especially at such a pivotal time in their lives. We extend our deepest condolences to Ryan’s family, friends, and brothers.
Ryan’s funeral will be held this Saturday, December 28th starting at 10am. It is open for anyone who can attend. I know his parents would love to see everyone’s support from the chapter.

What a tragedy to lose a fine man, a brother in the Bond, at such a young age. My prayers go out to his family, to the brothers and friends who were with him at the time of his demise, and to our fraternity at this time of loss.
